Leatha Woods Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by B.E. Brown & Co Mortuary on Sep. 24, 2025.
Leatha Ann Shaw Woods was born September 14, 1952, in Mobile, AL. She traded this life for eternal rest with the Almighty God on September 16, 2025. She was born to the union of the late Collie and Addie Shaw.

Leatha Shaw attended Mattie T. Blount Hight School and was employed at Ingall Shipyard from 1972 to 1989 as a Master Welder.

Leatha accepted Christ at an early age at Holmes Street Missionary Baptist Church and later joined the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. At Mt. Calvary she made a joyful noise with the J.J. Dixon Mass Choir, was a member of the Mission Ministry, served on the Pastor's Aide committee, and remained a faithful servant until her passing. She truly enjoyed the fellowship and teachings at the Sunday School & Mission Nights across the city of Mobile and surrounding areas.

Although Leatha had no biological children, the number of godsons & goddaughters she acquired and ministered to are countless. Her spiritual words of wisdom were a blessing to everyone who took the time to tune in and listen. She was not ashamed of the big G, God she served and would make sure that everyone understood there was a difference and those little g gods, she wanted no part of. Leatha's bold, yet humble spirit will be missed by everyone that truly knew her and accepted her faithfulness in walking with and running for the Lord!

Leatha was preceded in death by her parents, Collie and Addie Shaw; her ex-husband, Jerry Allen Woods; Five brothers: Ben Shaw, Webster Shaw, Jerry Shaw, Larry Shaw and Joseph Shaw; two nephews: Andrae Anderson and Trenton Eaton.

She leave to cherish her memories two sisters: Annie (Edward) Eaton and Mildred (Ralph) Crear both of Mobile, AL; Five nephews: Edward Tony (Tiffany) Eaton of High Point, NC; Lamar (Peggy) Shaw of Birmingham, AL; Perry Shaw of Mobile, AL; Conrad (Ashley) Shaw of Mobile, AL and Lamar(Larry's son); seven nieces: Phyllis Shaw, Kim Shaw, Fernetta Eaton, Tenel Harden, Shanoya Harden, Jazzmine Smith, and Princess Shaw all of Mobile, AL; and from the Woods family: three sisters- in-law, one brother-in-law, several bonus children, many nephews & nieces (two devoted nephews – Brian and Speedy) and one devoted niece, Monica (Kirk) Winbush.

Leatha will forever be remembered and loved by all her godchildren: one devoted Goddaughter, Isha Williams and a host of cousins, great nieces & nephews, other extended family members, prayer warriors and friends.
