Von Young

Sister Von (Vonnie) Deloris Young was born to the blessed union of Ollie H. Young and Ivorn Elizabeth Russell Young on March 1, 1936. Von was a Mother, Grandmother, and a Great-Grandmother.

Sis. Young was a graduate of Central High School, Alabama State University and she received her Masters of Education at The University of South of Alabama. She spent her career of over thirty-five years with the Mobile County Public School System as an Elementary School Teacher. She loved teaching and went the extra mile to ensure that her students had the tools necessary to succeed in life. Von retired in 1996 from Indian Springs Elementary School to enjoy her new granddaughter. She was also a member of the National Education Association and the Local Chapter of the Retired Teachers Association.

Sis. Young was an avid baker with her specialty being pound cakes especially during the Holiday Season. She also loved to travel with her daughter during her summer vacation and taking numerous photographs on the many vacations.

A native and lifelong resident of Whistler, Alabama, Von was a devout Christian, professing Christ at an early age, uniting with Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church of Whistler, AL where she served as a member of the Choir for numerous years.

Sis. Von D. Young peacefully departed this earthly world with her daughter by her side on December 24, 2025 and hearing Well Done Thy Good And Faithful Servant, Entered into the Loving Arms of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ollie H. Young and Ivorn Elizabeth Russell Young, Cousin, James (Dude) Perkins, Cousins, Lester and Josephine Finkley, Cousin Tanya Hazzard, Cousins, Charles McFarland, Harolyn and Loveless Kidd, and Joseph Brown.

Her survivors are a loving and devoted daughter, Sis. Via Qra Young Gailes, Devoted Grandchildren, Brianna Elizabeth Young, and Breland Elijah Alexander Gailes, Four Great Grandchildren, Avianna Elizabeth Young, Ayranna Brandii Young, Ace Elijah Taylor Young, and Legend Aziel Latson Young, God sister, Gloria White, Devoted Cousins, Herbene McFarland, Leona Barron, Ralph Flanagan, Jennifer Joyce Brown and the Brown Family. Dr. Terry Hazzard and Jared Hazzard. Dear Friends, Albert Harris, Dell Ward, Delena Yvette Crandall, Ruth Collins and Devoted Friend Friends Mother Austin, Ethel Hampton and Dorothy Mitchell, and the Russell, Kelly, Brown, Williams, and Spencer families and other relatives and friends.
