Ellen Franklin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by B.E. Brown & Co Mortuary on Mar. 10, 2026.
Mrs. Ellen Byrd Franklin, age 73, peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on Friday, March 6, 2026. Ellen was the seventh child born to the late Jesse Byrd and Ellen Smith Byrd. She was raised with strong values of faith, love, and family, which she carried throughout her life.

Ellen confessed Christ as her personal Savior at an early age in Kenner, Louisiana. On March 22, 1969, she married Malcom Franklin Sr. Afterwards, Ellen became a longtime resident of Mobile Alabama and a devoted member of Theodore First United Methodist church, where she faithfully worshipped and remained committed to her spiritual Community. Ellen was an educator for over 30 years and retired to enjoy her family in 2016.

Ellen leaves to cherish her precious memories of her loving and devoted husband for 56 years, Malcolm Franklin Sr.; her two devoted children, Malcolm (Tiffany) Franklin Jr. and Nequette (Kimberly) Franklin-Benjamin. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Jewlinda Franklin, Micha Franklin, Jasmine Taylor, and Nevaeh Maye, and a cherished great-grandmother to Khaleel Franklin-Tolbert, Jhaleel Franklin-Tolbert, and Taylen Howze.

She is also survived by four sisters: Alice Toussanit, Estelle (Alfonse) Eugene, Irma (Kenny) Allen, and Shirley Byrd; and one brother, Lemos Byrd.

She was preceded in death by her sister Gwendolyn Craft, four brothers: Claude (Mattie) Reece-Shot, James Commodore, Jessie Byrd Jr. (Ramona Byrd), and Willie Byrd (Girtie Byrd); and her grandson Malcolm Samuel Franklin.

Mrs. Franklin also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her love, kindness, and memory.
