Sis. Mattie Mae Montgomery Carmichael, a native of Belleville, Alabama and a longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama, was born on July 2, 1947, to the late Richard and Daisy Montgomery Sr. On February 28, 2026, she peacefully transitioned from labor to reward at a local hospital, surrounded by the grace of God's presence.

Sis. Carmichael was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Elder Willie James Carmichael Sr.; her cherished parents, Richard and Daisy Montgomery Sr.; her brother, Richard Montgomery Jr.; and her sister, Willie Mae Montgomery.

She was a proud graduate of Trinity Gardens High School. A faithful woman of God, Sis. Carmichael lived a life rooted in grace, dignity, and unwavering faith. She faithfully served for 30 years as First Lady of Mount Calvary Primitive Baptist Church, standing as a pillar of strength, wisdom, and quiet elegance within the church and community.

Sis. Carmichael was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, caring sister, and beloved aunt. Her life was a reflection of her deep love for God and her family.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories five children: Mose (Tamara) Chapple; Michelle Carmichael of Mobile, Alabama; Willie (Tammy) Carmichael Jr.; LaFonziel (Tammy) Carmichael; and Sharon Carmichael, all of Columbia, South Carolina; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She also leaves three brothers: Wesley Montgomery Sr., Calvin Montgomery, and Robert Lee (Friddie Mae) Montgomery, all of Mobile, Alabama; one sister, Arnette (Charlie) McCants; sisters-in-law, Donna Montgomery, Maggie Burford of Mobile, Alabama, and Gloria (Fred) Dixon of Pearland, Texas; a host of nieces and nephews; one devoted niece, Keisha Y. Montgomery; and many other relatives and dear friends.
