Evelyn D. Ballinger passed away at the age of 99 in her home on June 7, 2025, just 5 days shy of her 100th birthday with her son, Charles "Chuck" Corbitt, by her side after a life well and fully lived.
Born on June 12, 1925 the daughter of Foy Davis and Eva King Davis of Waycross, Georgia.
She is survived by her children, H. Charles Corbitt, III (Heleen A. Levenson deceased) of Lake City, Florida and Pearson, Georgia and daughter, Stacye C. Jarrell (Lannie) of Tybee Island and Brooklet, Georgia. She raised her young children alone on the farm that she so loved while her husband was employed building airstrips around the country during a period after World War II when airstrips were essential for the rebuilding of our nation's economy. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Hosie "H.C." Corbitt, Jr and grandson, H. Charles "Chuck" Dowling.
Evelyn was a beloved elementary teacher for 18 years in Atkinson County and Rockdale County, Georgia. She taught and enjoyed a lifelong friendship with her student, Mrs. Margie Mansour of Pearson, Georgia.
Evelyn enjoyed investing in real estate, renovating homes and providing housing for others through her endeavors. She prospered and assisted others in purchasing homes and with their financial needs in their daily lives.
She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Pearson, Georgia and graduated from South Georgia College and Valdosta State College with distinction. Evelyn was a proud member of Eastern Star and was actively involved in the reopening of the local American Legion which provided the youth of Atkinson County a community center. She enjoyed playing life master bridge.
We all lost a little of old Georgia with her passing.
Funeral services for Ms. Ballinger were held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Relihan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Worzella officiating. Special music included “Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace”. The internment followed at Mudcreek Cemetery.
