Lee’s life began on November 2, 1934, in Hillsboro. He was the son of Waldo and Goldie (Regier) Bartel. Lee was a 1952 graduate of Hillsboro High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann Buller on October 11, 1953, in Hillsboro, and they enjoyed 68 years of matrimony. Lee was employed by Beechcraft Aviation for 45 years. He enjoyed anything mechanical. Lee worked on cars, rode his motorcycle, and tinkered with motors. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, and being outdoors. Lee is survived by his three daughters Terrie (Gery) Lock of Hesston, Sandy (Jerry) Puckett of Whitewater and Cindy (Mike) Bohannan of Augusta; grandchildren Chris (Regina) Lock, Amber Hett, Brandon (Tara) Puckett, Janie (Danny) Becker, Dustin (Holly) Gehring, Jessica Bohannan, and Matthew (Kaylee) Bohannan; great grandchildren Conner, Makenzie, Rylee, Makilynn and Keaton Puckett, Kaydence Griffis, and Kanyon Mertz; Ryker and Ripley Becker, Max, Dexter and Stella Seymour, Tuff, Cheyanne, and Gabriel Gehring, Everly and Maverick Bohannan, Shanese London, Shanae Myrick, Shaquia Barnes, Sebastian and Sabrea Lock; and great great grandchildren Zadrian Graham and Kade Rude. Lee passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at NMC Health in Newton. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, brother Arthur Bartel, and sister Naomi Gisi. His family will gather with friends on Monday, October 20, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Hillsboro, where his funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest in Haven of Rest Cemetery, Hillsboro.
