2 Corinthians 5:8
We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.
Lee Ruth Johnson, 77, passed peacefully on Monday evening, January 5, 2026 surrounded by her children and close friends. Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at 2 pm at Griffin Mortuary Chapel. Private Disposition under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
Lee Ruth was born September 14, 1948 in Elkhart, Texas to A.L and Doris (Carr) Washington. They relocated to Lubbock, Texas where she attended school and graduated from Dunbar High School. She went on to obtain her cosmetology license and worked as a beautician for a while. She received her diploma in 1982 from American Commercial College with a degree in Basic Office Management. She started working at White Swan, now U.S. Foods as the warehouse secretary in 1982 and retired after 35 years of service in 2017.
Lee Ruth always had that contagious smile on her face. She loved to bowl and listen to her “oldies”. But her favorite thing to do was watch her movies.
She was preceded in death by her father A.L. Washington and two sisters, Erma Washington and Bessie Johnson.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Sabrina Skief and Johnny Johnson, III, grandsons, Johnny Johnson IV, Keyshawn Johnson, Stacey DeShawn Norris, Jr, and nephew Willie Johnson Jr.
Her mother, Doris Washington, joined her to be with the Lord on January 15, 2026.
