Lee Edwin Philport, age 88 of Vicksburg, Michigan, passed away on August 26, 2025. He was born in Wyandotte, Michigan, son of the late Clyde and Helen (Saleski) Philport. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ardelle (Smith) Philport, grandson Christopher Gingell, stepson Charles Sullivan, and brothers Jerry and Dale Philport.
He is survived by his wife Jean; daughter Jennifer Gingell; son Darin Philport; stepson John Sullivan; and several nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Lee was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, class of 1955, where he played football and rowed on the crew that won national & Canadian championships. Lee attended Western Michigan University, graduating in 1959 with a degree in Industrial Engineering and Marketing. While there, he played football and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, remaining active in alumni activities for many years.
Lee worked and managed several machine tool companies before moving into the construction industry. After retiring, Lee served as supervisor and trustee for Brady Township. He also gave his time to the local Fire Authority, EMS Board, and the Michigan Township Association. He helped establish the Vicksburg Community Schools Foundation and served as one of its first presidents. Lee was also a proud member of the Vicksburg United Methodist Church and the local Rotary Club.
He loved being on the water—boating and fishing were favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed golf and morning coffee with friends.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at the Vicksburg United Methodist Church on Thursday, September 25th, 2025, at 11am. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
