Leigh Shurley Barrett

Leigh Shurley Barrett, 78, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025 at Brookstone of Clemmons. Leigh was born on May 13, 1947 to Walter Horace Barrett and Gloria Ann Mecum in Winston-Salem. Leigh graduated with a bachelor's degree in German from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She accepted a job at R.J. Reynolds as a quality assurance supervisor and worked there until her retirement in 1999. Leigh was a devoted member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She was a lover of animals, books, her country, and her family. Leigh is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of almost 30 years, Bob Hege; and two children, Rob Hege and fiancé Rozetta Hodge, Taylor Swann and husband Keith Swann; four grandchildren, Hunter and Conner Hege, Cameron Hodge, and Ethan Petree.

A funeral will be held Saturday, November 1st at 1p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Ford and Reverend Oliver Helsebeck officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trellis Hospice, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Brookstone of Clemmons, 4430 Clinard Road, Clemmons, NC 27102.
