It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leigh Jean Everett on Thursday, December 12th, 2024 surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved well and was well loved by all who had the pleasure of sharing their life with her.
Leigh was born in Syracuse, New York on January 29th, 1941, to William Casselberry and Marian White and grew up in Houston, Texas alongside her younger brother, Robert Casselberry. After graduating from Reagan High School, Leigh met the love of her life, Bob Everett, at Southwest Texas State University, in the fall of 1959. Bob and Leigh were married on Bob's birthday on July 15th, 1961 (so he wouldn't forget!) and they just celebrated their 63rd anniversary this summer.
Bob and Leigh have been members of Woodlawn Baptist Church for 52 years, where they have developed life-long relationships with so many friends. They raised their kids, celebrated birthdays and holidays, took vacations together, and have been there for each other through all the joy and pain life has thrown their way.
After starting her family, Leigh went back to school to obtain her teaching certificate in 1987. Her career consisted of teaching middle school Texas history at Del Valle Middle School and Covington Middle School before retiring at Small Middle School in 2006. She had many other passions including singing with the church choir and the Singing Women of Texas, reading, traveling, volunteering, and most of all, being "Gram".
To her family, "Gram" was the one everyone called for advice or for a shoulder to cry on. Her spirit is woven around our hearts and into our lives always. Each of her children and grandchildren were her "favorite" and she brought out the best in us with her unconditional love.
Leigh is survived by her husband, Bob and three daughters Shelley, Becky and Amy. Shelley and Jamie Kizer have 2 daughters, Lizzie with her husband Tyler Zientara, and Ashley. Becky and Steve Thorp, with their daughter Lauren. Amy and Kevin Ard with their 2 sons, Tyler and Travis. She is also survived by her step-brother, Greg White.
She is preceded in death by her father and step-mother, William and Kay Casselberry, her mother Marian White, brother, Robert Casselberry, step-father, Robert White, step-sister, Linda White, and step-brother, Scott White.
Her celebration of life will take place at Woodlawn Baptist Church on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 10:30 AM. There will be a graveside service at Cook Walden/Forest Oaks Cemetery at 12:00 PM.
