Leigh Macijewski Wilson

Leigh Macijewski Wilson, 60, of Conover, peacefully passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Amorem Hospice.

Born November 28, 1965, she was the daughter of Ellis August Macijewski and Joan Messick Macijewski of Hickory.

Leigh was a graduate of Hickory High School and UNC Charlotte where she earned her Bachelor's Degree. She spent her career working as a social worker at Broughton Hospital for over 30 years. She was a natural for this job which was very demanding, often dangerous, included travel but was extremely rewarding as Leigh loved her job and loved working with all the patients. Leigh's compassion, love for others, selflessness, kindness and empathy made her perfect for her vocation.

At a young age Leigh enjoyed playing sports, both softball and basketball. She also enjoyed old rock n' roll music including AC/DC and Aerosmith, doing cross stitch, making pillows and most of all spending time with her family, doting on her grandson. She was also an animal lover and was dedicated to taking care of her "critters."

Leigh was a very strong lady as she valiantly fought pancreatic cancer, never giving up and handling everything with grace and faith. She was truly remarkable in every way as a daughter, sister, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her children: Jacob August Wilson of Conover, Jenna Leigh Wilson of Conover; grandson, Benjamin Vassil of Conover, and sister, Susan Macjiewski Suddreth of Bethlehem.

A service to celebrate Leigh's life will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Christy and the Rev. Jennifer Forrester officiating. A reception will follow the service in the fellowship hall at the church.
