On Christmas night, December 25, 1930, Leila Lillian Carol Price Pierpoint arrived into a farmhome in the village of Trappe, Maryland. She was the firstborn of Graham and Adaline Price. Later, another daughter, Jane, would be born. At ten years of age, young Leila knelt at an altar, gave her heart to the Lord and served him devotedly for 83 years.
She was a graduate of Easton High School, Easton, Md. Leila earned a Bachelor Degree in English Education with a minor in Latin from Washington College, Chestertown, Maryland (1951). She taught various levels of elementary education in schools in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Kansas and Florida. As a single lady, Leila was the organist for a local funeral home and played for the St. Paul’s Pilgrim Church, Oxford, Maryland radio broadcast. Her life’s calling and primary mission, however, was that of a pastor’s wife. She served alongside her husband of 66 years, as they pastored churches in Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Kansas and Florida. As a pastor’s wife, Leila Pierpoint capably fulfilled her calling by often serving as the church organist and a Sunday School teacher. She considered hospitality a vital part of her ministry and entertained numerous guests in their parsonage homes.
Leila Pierpoint transitioned to her heavenly home on the morning of June 12, 2024 following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Esther Jane Pierpoint and her parents, Graham and Adeline Price.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Paul Pierpoint, Hobe Sound, Florida; daughters Evangeline (Rodney) Addison of Harlem, Georgia, and Paula Pierpoint of Hobe Sound; a sister, Jane (Paul) Dieter of Easton, Md; granddaughters, Crystal Martin and Skyler Addison; grandsons, Jeffrey Addison and Hunter Addison; and two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Emma Leigh Martin, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
