Leland Matthew Luna, DO

Leland passed away peacefully at his home on December 12, 2025 following a long illness. He was a Primary Care Physician specializing in Family Medicine with an office in South San Francisco. He had a kind and gentle soul and was generous in helping others in need as well as with his knowledge of medicine and assisting those who asked. He was a humble man yet his humor was contagious.

He is survived by his beloved partner Chris Weatherford, loving step children, Kady Weatherford, Alex Weatherford (Sarah), Sara Oranges (Greg), and Brent Weatherford. He was the devoted son of Suzanne Luna, dear brother of Melanie Vickroy (Chip), Michael Luna (Sue), Summer Luna (Art Washington), and Dennis Luna (Laura). He is also survived by nephews Kevin Luna (Sofie), Zack Waterfire, and nieces Misha Riley (Mike), and Kiona Vickroy. He was preceded in death by his loving father, Dr. Manuel Luna and his beloved fur baby Oliver. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and step grandchildren.

Leland graduated from Aragon High School in San Mateo CA. He attended the University of California, Irvine, Pre-Med. He graduated from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He did his Internship and Residency at Pacific Hospital of Long Beach.

Leland was the Medical Director of the California Medical Clinic in Ontario CA. He joined his father's medical practice in South San Francisco in 2002. He continued the practice following his father's retirement in 2016. He was dearly loved by his many patients, sales reps and loyal staff.

Leland was very adventurous. He enjoyed kayaking, windsurfing, archery, and paintball gun games. He practiced martial arts. He belonged to a vespa club, riding with his beloved sidekick Oliver. From an early age he was passionate about building military models. He loved music. He had many guitars and a collection of drums. He most recently was learning to play the djembe drum. He was joyful listening and learning new songs to play.

He was a religious man and had the opportunity to travel to Medjugore on a pilgrimage to see the miraculous sights a couple of times with family members. May his soul rest in peace with the Lord.

There will be a celebration of life on January 10th, 2025 at 10:30 am at Saint Augustine Church, 3700 Callan Blvd. South San Francisco.
