Joseph Simoni Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cypress Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park from Jan. 1 to Jan. 4, 2026.
Joseph P. "Joe" Simoni, 80, passed away on December 24, 2025, in San Mateo, California. A lifelong Californian, Joe was born in San Francisco and spent his life enriching the communities around him through music, service, and volunteer work. As a first-generation Italian American, he spent time as a member of The Sons and Daughters of Italy Organization.

Joe's early education began in San Francisco then his family moved to San Mateo. He graduated from Aragon High School in San Mateo. He later earned his degree from San Francisco State University and earned his MBA from Notre Dame de Namur University Belmont CA. His professional career was rooted in the financial sector, where he worked for several banks in risk and compliance roles. Known for his diligence and integrity, Joe brought a thoughtful approach to his work until his retirement.

After retiring from banking, Joe returned to one of his earliest passions-music. From childhood, he had a deep love for the accordion. That passion blossomed into a lifelong pursuit that brought joy to many. As leader of the Joe Simoni Orchestra, he performed at numerous clubs throughout the Bay Area. His music became a staple of local entertainment and a source of pride for those who knew him. Beyond performing, Joe generously shared his talent by teaching accordion to many pupils over the years.

As one of the many organizations Joe belong to, he was very active in the Peninsula Italian America Social Club

Joe also served his country with honor during the Vietnam War as part of the military's music entertainment service. There, he played the clarinet, continuing to uplift others through music even in challenging times.

A man of faith, Joe was an active member of Saint Matthew's Catholic Church in San Mateo. His involvement extended beyond attendance; he served as an usher and was a familiar presence within the parish community.

Joe lost both parents, Vittoria and Joe Simoni; his sister Liana Ghilarducci; and his brother Delio Simoni. He is survived by his nephews Stephen, Mark, and Dennis Ghilarducci.

Those who knew Joe remember him not only for his musical gifts but also for the warmth, humor and kindness he brought into every room. May his memory bring comfort to all who were touched by his life.

Yesterday

Dave and I were neighbours of Joe´s at the HPEA. Joe will be remembered as a kind and familiar presence among us-we have fond memories of a lovely evening when he shared his accordion music at a poolside gathering, a truly special moment. Joe played an important part in our HOA, and we´re so grateful for all the time and care he gave over the years. He´ll be missed, and his presence will be fondly remembered.
Deepest sympathies to Joe´s family on your loss.
