Leland Arthur Thompson, age 91, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on July 7, 2025. Born on February 26, 1934, in Summer, Iowa, he was the son of Arthur and Viola (Peterson) Kirchhoff.
Leland married his beloved wife, June Kincaid, on June 28, 1952, at the First Congregational Church in Clinton, Iowa. Recently, they celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary-a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to his family, his community, and his craft.
He worked as a meat cutter and butcher in Clinton for many years, including six years at Wrath Packing Company in Waterloo. In 1972, he transitioned to a new calling as an electrician, working with Local 145 of the IBEW. Demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit, Leland co-founded Thompson Electric in Clinton with his brother Gilbert, a venture he proudly led until his retirement in 1998.
Leland was a man of quiet strength and kindness, known for his willingness to help others without expectation of return. He spent his life giving of his time and talents, earning the respect and admiration of his community and colleagues alike. Despite his generous nature, he was often humble and found it difficult to ask for help himself.
He is survived by his wife, June; children Linda Thompson, Leland Thompson Jr., Sandra Grell, and Connie Mangler. Leland has nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and he is survived by his sister Lucy Melvin; and his brother Paul Thompson. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public services. Cremation has been entrusted to the Eastern Iowa Cremation Society.
Leland's legacy is one of compassion, humility, and service. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered for the goodness he shared with all who knew him.
