LIFE REFLECTIONS
Lelon Ray Seaberry, Sr. was born to the union of Arthur Seaberry and Verna Standifer Seaberry on June 18, 1932, and passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024. For nearly sixty-six years, Lelon was united in Holy Matrimony to Frankie Swift Seaberry, and to that union a son, Lelon Seaberry Jr., was born.
Lelon attended East St. Louis Public Schools and graduated from Lincoln Senior High School. Furthering his education, he accepted a basketball scholarship to Bishop College in Marshall, Texas, and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, and later, a Master's Degree from Webster College in St. Louis, Missouri.
During his many years of teaching, Lelon loved his students, treating them as his own, and encouraging them to strive for excellence in their endeavors. His teaching experiences included teaching at all grade levels: the sixth grade at Webster School and Physical Education at Dunbar School; Coaching basketball and teaching Physical Education at the King Jr. High School where he later served as Dean of Students, and Lincoln Senior High School where he served as assistant basketball coach to Earl "Tree" Harris.
Lelon was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; a member of Southern Cross Lodge #112, Tyree Consistory #64, and Aahmes Temple #132. He was a life-long member of Pilgrim Temple C.M.E. Church. His civic duties included serving for many years as Precinct Committeeman in Centreville, Illinois, and as a St. Clair County board member.
Lelon loved his family and friends. He always enjoyed family gatherings which often included having breakfast at his favorite restaurants or having events at his home. He also was often seen walking his best friend, his dog Shakazulu (Shaka), around the neighborhood and in Frank Holten State Park. An avid sports fan, he could always be found sitting in his favorite recliner while watching a basketball or football game on television.
Lelon was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Verna Seaberry and sister, Deloris Seaberry Tucker.
To cherish his memory, he leaves: his wife, Frankie Seaberry; son, Lelon (Erica) Seaberry Jr.; two granddaughters, Raelynn Seaberry (Cory) Howard and Sheena Morrison; two great-grands, Zyon Howard and Karlee Richardson; brother, Gregory Golston; brother-in-law, Jesse (Angela) Swift; special nephews, Luke Tucker, Jesse (Karen) Swift III and Bryan Swift; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
