Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sadler Suess Funeral Home & Crematory - Telford on Dec. 19, 2025.
Lena (Lee) Schultz Johnson, 97, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, at Lutheran Community at Telford. She was the loving wife and best friend for 72 years of her husband, Waldo L. Johnson, who predeceased her in 2023. Lena lived a life of love and purpose and will be missed by her children, friends, nieces and nephews who meant so much to her.
As the youngest of seven children born in
Hereford, PA, Lena was the daughter of the late Homer and Lizzie (Leh) Schultz. She often shared stories about her years growing up on the farm (including the chores and Sunday suppers) and the foundation that formed for her life.
Lena's lifelong journey in education began in a one-room schoolhouse where she and Waldo were classmates. She was a graduate of Upper Perkiomen High School, followed by four years at West Chester State College earning a degree in education, certified in music and English. After a hiatus to be home with her young children, she returned to teaching and went on to earn a master's degree in education administration from Lehigh University, advancing her career to serve as a principal of elementary and middle schools for many years in the North Penn School District. Lee loved what she did and cherished her many friends, colleagues and students. In retirement, Lena served as Executive Director of the Adult Literacy Council in Montgomery County, committed to supporting a life of learning.
Lena enjoyed extensive travel along with many winters in Florida with Waldo. As a musician herself, she took every opportunity to see the Philadelphia Orchestra, attend community concerts or attend a production at the Walnut Street Theater. She loved spending time with family and dear friends, having hosted many well-attended parties over the years. She was an active member of the Lansdale Schwenkfelder Church, before returning to her home church in Palm.
Lena was most proud of her role as wife, mother, grandma and great grandma and is survived by three children: Richard B. Johnson and his wife Irene of
Pittsburgh, PA, Thomas E. Johnson and his wife Sabina of
Lansdale, PA, and Anne Johnson of
Lansdale, PA as well as five grandchildren and six great grandchildren who she loved and adored.
The family would like to thank the Lutheran Community at Telford and Caring Hospice for the wonderful care, love and support they gave to Lena.
Funeral services with interment will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Palm Schwenkfelder Church, 833 Gravel Pike,
Palm, PA 18070. Family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 AM until time of service in the church. Graveside services will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center, 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, PA 18073-1898.
