Lena Protho

Lena Protho entered this world in Ashland, Alabama, on December 21, 1944, as the cherished daughter of Aaron Protho, Sr. and Arlene Clark Protho. Lena's journey was marked by boundless love, joyful music, and a deep-seated commitment to her family and faith-a life beautifully lived and lovingly remembered.

Lena's nurturing spirit enriched the lives of her children, Eddie, Dontrice, Keshia, and Cynthia. She emanated warmth and kindness, traits that defined her as a mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her passion for dance, especially when fueled by the soulful rhythms of the blues, reflected her vibrant personality and love for celebration. Lena's home was a sanctuary for family gatherings, where her laughter and hospitality created an atmosphere of love and joy.

In her early years, Lena accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and as an adult, she became a devoted member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Ashland, where her faith blossomed even further. She pursued her education through the Chicago County School System, proudly graduating from John Marshall High School. Lena's professional journey led her through various roles at Kodak, Zenith, and Major Plastics, but her heart found its true calling as an Environmental Aide at Rush Presbyterian Hospital, where she dedicated her life to helping others until her retirement.

On December 28, 2025, Lena transitioned from this earthly realm to her eternal resting place, surrounded by her dear loved ones. Welcomed in the afterlife by her parents, Aaron, Sr. and Arlene Protho, her daughter, Keshia Protho, her sister, Latrice Nelson, her grandson, Brian Protho, her granddaughter, Ashley Murph, and her daughter-in-law, Kaddie Protho, we find comfort in knowing that she is embraced by love and light.

Lena's legacy will forever resonate through her children, Eddie Protho, Dontrice Jackson, and Cynthia Protho; alongside her adored two sisters, Cassandra (Larry) Miller and Ester Twyman; three brothers, Aaron (Pat) Protho, Dennis (Alesia) Nelson, and Terrell Nelson; grandchildren, Corey Protho, Joseph Protho, LaKeshia Murph, Marcus Murph, Cherish Protho, Kerry Murph, Christiana Protho, Tatiana Murph, Kadedra Murph, Alexis Murph, and Antonio Protho; and a rich tapestry of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

As we say our goodbyes, let us carry forward her spirit of love and compassion-a legacy that will ignite our hearts for generations to come.
