It is with heavy heart that we share the passing of Lennie Anthony Rogess the first, who left us on December 1st, 2024, at the age of 74. He was blessed to pass in the comfort of good friend Cheryl Cooke's home where he was renting a room.
Born November 7, 1950, in Guam, Lennie went on to graduate from the University of Guam with a master's degree in administration of education. During this time, he would father two children, Brian and Christine. He would later go on to join the United States Army as an Army Ranger where he would travel the world. Eventually he would settle down and marry Jeannie Brown. He loved her children like his own and they would eventually have their own son, Lennie Anthony Rogess II. While the marriage didn't last the family continued to rely on each other during tough times and remained close.
Lennie was also well known for being a hard worker. He spent many years at Torrington before it became Timken. At the same time, he also worked as a bus driver for the Union County School System. He also worked with them as a janitor. His home was often decorated with the Christmas cards given to him by children from his job. At one point he spent time as a security guard at Wallace Thompson Hospital. When he left the mill, he picked up a job at BiLo, remaining with the company when the building was bought by KJs. And when he stopped driving the school bus, he picked up a night shift at AMI kids Camp White Pines.
It feels like everyone knew Lennie. He greeted people by name wherever he went. He is survived by many loved ones. Son Lennie Rogess and daughter in law Hollis Fowler, granddaughters Gwen Rogess and Morgan Fowler, stepdaughter Vicki Toney, son in law Rolph Toney, stepson Charles Lee Jr and daughter in law Dovie Lee, stepson Michael Lee and daughter in law Phyllis Lee. He also had many nieces and nephews who found him to be a source of many fun stories. Among them are Matthew Manibusan, Jolynn Chitwood, Eden Chitwood, Novah Manibusan, Maddie Manibusan, Matthew Yarborough, Josiah Manibusan, and many other numerous family members who live in Guam. He was also survived by his other children Brian and Christine. He was predeceased by stepson Chris Lee, sister Agripina Alvarez, niece Joann Revis and a brother.
Friends and family will be received at 809 Meadow Woods Road in Buffalo South Carolina on Thursday the 5th between the hours of 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Lennie asked that his remains be cremated so no burial is to be expected. However, his faith was very dear to him so mass will be held in his honor on Tuesday the 10th at St. Augustine Catholic Church at 2 p.m., located at 103 E. South Street Union SC 29379.
