Lenore L. Close, longtime Emigrant resident, entered into her eternal rest on July 17th, 2025, at the age of 93 at Livingston HealthCare.
Lenore was born in St. Paul, MN on April 2, 1932, to Charles and Anna (Basta) Lindorfer. She spent her early years in White Bear Lake, MN attending grade school at St. Mary's Catholic School. She graduated from White Bear Lake High School in 1950. During her teenage years, Lenore worked at her parent's bakery and her brother Ed's laundry.
Lenore met the love of her life while on vacation at Ox Yoke Dude Ranch, now Mountain Sky Guest Ranch. She married Roy Close on October 4th, 1951, in Phoenix, AZ. After living briefly in Gardiner, MT they moved to Emigrant in the mid 50s. She and Roy owned and operated the original Emigrant General Store 1963-1973 while raising their children. Lenore held the position of US Postmaster in Emigrant from 1963-1992. After her retirement from the post office, she worked alongside Roy as caretaker of Morningstar Ranch south of Emigrant. Her Roy passed away on February 20th, 2004, and Lenore continued as caretaker until her retirement at the age of 80 years young.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Emigrant and the Shining Mountain Ladies Club. She loved traveling with Roy, fishing, bowling, reading, flower gardening, picking huckleberries, crocheting, cards - playing 'Pedro' in particular - and jigsaw puzzles. She thoroughly enjoyed visits from her children and grandchildren.
Lenore is survived by children Linda (Fred) Counts of Emigrant, Anna Close of Emigrant, Barbara (Kim) Chervestad of Oklee, MN, Steven (Mary Jane) Close of Monterey, CA and Jody (Mick) Pool of Reno, NV; her brother Chuck (Lea) Lindorfer of St. Paul and sister Elaine Villelli of Crossville, TN; nine grandchildren: Jessica Knudsen, Jennifer Shook, Andrew Balavage, Alan Balavage, Larissa Bloedel, Brett Chervestad, Todd Chervestad, Tylor Chervestad and Mason Pool, 13 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews and special friends Hiram and Arda Webb, Connie Malcolm and Lisa Close. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Robert, Dorothy, Irene, MaryAnn, Edward, Barbara and James, and infant son Allan.
Memorial services will be held at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston, MT on Friday, October 3rd at 1:30 PM All are invited to the Emigrant Hall south of Livingston immediately following the memorial service for a time of refreshment and remembrance of Lenore's life.
