Lenore Buck Hellwege, 96, of Cape Carteret, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, September 20, 2024.
Lenore was born on October 10, 1927, in Spring Hope, NC, to the late William and Blanche Wester. She was married to her beloved husband John Nash Buck, with whom she raised a loving family of three children. After John’s passing, Lenore found love once more, marrying Richard Hellwege.
A devoted nursing professional, Lenore dedicated her life to caring for others. Her commitment to her patients and her exemplary compassion showcased the profound impact she had in the healthcare field. As a Nursing Supervisor at Carteret General for 16 years, she inspired many by managing and guiding both nurses and clinical staff to ensure the highest quality of care for all patients.
More than anything, Lenore found great joy in spending quality time with her loved ones. In her younger years, Lenore loved to go fishing. Her faith was an integral part of her as she was a devoted member of Cape Carteret Baptist Church. Lenore's loving spirit and dedication to her family and faith will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Janice Maskell of Little River, SC and Nancy Buck of Cape Carteret; son, John Nash Buck II and wife Wendy Case Buck of Cape Carteret; brother, Fleming Wester and wife Carolyn of Fuquay-Varina, NC; and grandchildren, Hatteras Buck, Kayeleigh Hughes, Casen Hardy, Thomas Hester and Holli Hester.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Lenore was preceded in death by her brother, Alton “Bill” Wester.
Lenore will be laid to rest privately at Gethsemane Memorial Park. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090.
