Lenore Howe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chagnon Funeral Home Inc. on Jun. 21, 2024.
Lenore A. Howe, age 90, of Canada Creek Ranch, died at home on Friday June 21, 2024. The daughter of Peter and Eva Mae (Coskey) Serant, Lenore was born in St. Clair, Michigan on March 10, 1934. Blessed with 63 years of marriage at the time of his death in 2018, Lenore married John W. Howe on August 21, 1954, in Belleville, Michigan.
Lenore and John both worked as educators in the Plymouth Canton School District. Lenore taught nearly every grade in elementary school, eventually retiring from teaching after more than 30 years. Working for the school district allowed the Howe's to enjoy their summer vacations in Northern Michigan. They bought a place at Canada Creek Ranch in the 1960's where they spent their summers and after retirement in 1985 made their permanent home.
Lenore was active with the Canada Creek Ranch Association where she served on various committees and was a member of the Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed social gatherings and events at the Ranch and played euchre and pinochle at the Ranch House on Mondays. Devoted to her Christian faith, Lenore was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Plymouth and has belonged to the Onaway United Methodist Church since 1985.
Very skilled and quite talented, Lenore was an avid quilter. She enjoyed her quilting group at the United Methodist Church where she hand-stitched beautiful quilts for charities. At home she enjoyed stitching placemats, table runners, and pillows for friends and family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed word search puzzles, and was an excellent canner and baker. She and John enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and wintered in Alabama for many years.
A remarkable lady, Lenore had an incredible memory and was a fantastic storyteller. She could tell stories about things that happened fifty years ago recalling every detail with clarity. Friendships and people were important to her, as she made it a point to stay in contact with friends, neighbors, even former students after moving to Northern Michigan. Close with her family, she enjoyed their calls and visits, never ceasing to amaze them with her feisty wit and wonderful sense of humor.
Surviving is Lenore's daughter, Leann Howe of Livonia; grandson, Kyle Gross, of Livonia; granddaughter's Kallie (Kevin) Chechlowski, also of Livonia, Katrina Reinke of Pensacola, Florida, and Eva (Corey) Prehn of Lillian, Alabama; five great grandchildren as well as her sister, Katie Takihiro of Hawaii. Lenore was preceded in death by her husband, John, on January 12, 2018; daughter, Lucy Reinke; and siblings, Dorothy and William.
Lenore will be honored by her family privately. Those planning an expression of sympathy please consider a donation in memory of Lenore to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Arbor Day Foundation, or to McLaren Home Care and Hospice.
