Lenore Schupak, age 91, passed away on July 27, 2024 in Scottsdale, AZ. She was born in Brighton Beach, NY, and studied at Brooklyn College. After living in North Woodmere, Dix Hills, and Alpine NJ, where she raised her four children, Lenore and her late husband Gene Z"L moved to North Scottsdale in 1980. Together, they built a remarkable legacy of philanthropic engagement, with a special focus on Jewish causes. Lenore was drawn to social services, not surprising given her enormously empathic, and good-natured heart. As a decades long Board member of Phoenix JFCS, Lenore helped start such innovative programs as Helping Hands and Shelter Without Walls, for which she won the Woman of Valor award. Lenore's greatest passion, however, was reserved for Israel. Some of the highlights of her life were personally escorting Russian and Ethiopian Jews as they immigrated to Israel. Lenore was also an active spouse for two decades on the National Board of AIPAC. She was passionate about the importance of Jewish education and the need to protect Israel for future generations.
Lenore's most significant legacy, though, is the foundational role she played in supporting her grandchildren. Her unconditional love was priceless, giving them confidence to take risks and thrive. She exuded style, grace, and a warm humor; Lenore was adored by all. Survivors include her children, Carole Schupak, Erika (Steve) Neuberg, Terrence (Michelle) Hennessey and Steven (Karen) Schupak; grandchildren, Wendy (Rodrigo), Jeffrey (Lesley), Rachel, Zachary, Elliot, and Madeline, and great-grandchildren Ester, Emilia, Evie, Poppy, and Maia.
Funeral services Monday, July 29th, at 8:30 am at Mt. Sinai Cemetery, 24210 N. 68th St., Phoenix. Contributions in her memory are suggested to: AIPAC Education Fund, 251 H St NW, Washington DC 20001; Jewish Family and Children's Services, 4747 N 7th St Ste 100, Phoenix, AZ 85014, or Hospice of the Valley 6117 N. 76th St., Scottsdale, AZ 85260. My mother, Aileen Osofsky, and Lenore were the best of friends. When my mother passed in 2010 Lenore shared with me that my mother taught her the true meaning of friendship. When my father passed in 2019 Lenore immediately let me know how pained she was and wanted me to share her deepest sympathy with my family. What my mother shared with me, when she moved to Arizona across the street from Lenore, was that she felt at home. Lenore was more than a friend, she became family. Together they worked to make a difference in the lives of others. They worked to make the world better. Lenore left an indelible mark on many communities and in the lives of my family. I know that my mother has already set a place at the table for Lenore and has signed her up for one charity or another. Today we want to send our deepest sympathy to Lenore's family. We hope that the happy memories they shared with their mother and grandmother will be a comfort. Lenore signed her last text to me Hugs. We are sending hugs to her family! With love Stephen, Judd, & Ryder Kessler & Randy Osofsky
