Leo Flynn, 75, of Lee's Summit, MO passed away Saturday, November 5, 2011 at his home in Lee's Summit. Leo was born on May 8, 1936 in North Tonawanda, NY to Arthur and Virginia Flynn. After his parents passed away in 1948 when Leo was only 12, his sister, Ginny, assumed his guardianship. Although it was a difficult time for them, they became a tight-knit family of two. After graduating high school, Leo served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return to the US, he met and married Sue Wallis in 1960. Family was all important to him and he spent many hours coaching softball, basketball, and Cub Scout baseball. After retirement Leo pursued his favorite pastime, golf. He became a Marshall at Shamrock Hills Golf Club. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Virginia Flynn and his brother-in-law and long-time friend, James Seward. He is survived by his wife, Sue Flynn, daughter Valery Thompson of Tucson, AZ; son Michael Flynn of Bonita Springs, FL; three grandchildren, Amanda, Ryan, and Kyle; sister Virginia Bybee of Walnut Creek, CA; and brother Arthur Flynn of OK. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 11th at Newcomer's Longview Funeral Home, 12700 S. Raytown Rd, Kansas City, MO 64149, (816) 761-6272. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Melanoma Research Foundation, 1411 K Street, NW Suite 500, Washington, DC 20005.
