LEO GURULE Obituary

LEO GURULE
July 20, 1943 - October 16, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Leo Richard Gurule, 81, on October 16, 2024. He passed peacefully with family members by his side. Leo was a beloved husband, wife (Missy Gurule), father (Mark Gurule, deceased, and Eric Gurule, wife, Jessica Gurule), stepfather (Rachel Tait and Amelie Paul, husband, Jonathan Paul), cherished grandfather (Connor Paul, Miguel Tait, and Cora Gurule), and uncle. Leo was born in Santa Fe to Felipita and Tito Gurule and grew up alongside his siblings, Marie Garcia, Albert Gurule, Phil Gurule (deceased), Patricia Gurule, Ben Gurule, and Art Gurule, in a loving family that instilled in him the values of service, dedication, spirituality, compassion, and friendship.
As a husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, Leo's love knew no bounds. As a father he was supportive in so many ways. His guidance will be drawn upon for generations. He provided doting care for niece, Lily and grandchildren, Connor, Miguel, and Cora. Leo relished traveling the world with Missy. He nurtured his family with kindness, imparting lessons of strength and resilience.
Leo had "buddies" who dearly loved him and enjoyed many special times full of laughter. Leo enjoyed celebrity status at El Gancho. One almost had to make an appointment to talk with him, as there was always a line when he was on the treadmill. He made the best red chile in Santa Fe!
Leo proudly served his country as a Vietnam Army veteran, embodying the spirit of commitment and bravery. After his military service, he continued his dedication to public safety as a police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department, and as Sergeant-at-Arms for the House of Representatives at the New Mexico State Legislature. His colleagues admired him for his leadership, integrity, and unwavering support for those around him. His laughter and wisdom will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and an enduring spirit that will forever be remembered.
A celebration of Leo's life will be held at 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at

Robert Tryon

October 20, 2024

My name is Robert Tryon and I was a friend of Leo. We both attended the Life Circle program for people with dementia. Early in our friendship, we found that we had several things in common. My father was also a policeman in Los Angeles but they worked in different areas of the city.

I will miss him very much, Robert Tryon
