Leo was born July 24, 1926, at Columbia, LA to the union of his parents, Saint Elmo May and Maggie Coates May, and he passed away March 11, 2023, at his home in Columbia. He was 96 years old. Leo served his country as a medic in the U. S. Army during WWII. He owned and operated Columbia Motor Parts and the Columbia Washateria before he retired. Leo was one of the oldest members of Columbia Heights Baptist Church. He was an active and dedicated member there until his health prevented him from attending. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of fifty-six years, Betty Hamilton May; an infant son, Gary Leo May; mother-in-law, Alfra Hamilton; and nine siblings.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons: Clint May (Pam) and Steven May (Shannon); daughters: Carol Greer (Rick) and Linda Head (Gaylon); nine grandchildren: Jessica Slaughter (Joey), Daniel May, Adam May (Kandis), Jacob May, Taylor May, Dustin May, Brittany Rushing (Justin), Kevin Greer (Julia Ann), Kathleen Bahm (Aaron), and a special young man he loved like a grandson, Bo Escalon and his family; nineteen great-grandchildren; three special friends, Effie Floyd and Bill and Lou Rushing; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel May, Adam May, Jacob May, Dustin May, Joey Slaughter, Justin Rushing, Bo Escalon, and Dustin Sinclair. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Greer and all his great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Randy Head who was more than a doctor, he was a friend. Also they would like to say thank you to Citizens Medical Center for their compassion and care.

The family asks that any planned memorials be made to Columbia Heights Building Fund or The Gideons.

Leo was the patriarch of a large, loving family and he will be greatly missed by all. For years Leo has said "I'm waiting on the Master." He is no longer waiting on the Master for he is now at home with Him.
