It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leo "Papa" William Walker, a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, brother, veteran, and friend, who left us on October 1, 2025, at the age of 98. Born on November 13, 1926, in Gastonia, North Carolina, Leo lived a full and vibrant life, leaving a lasting impact on those around him.
Leo proudly served in the Marines during World War II, fighting bravely at Iwo Jima. After his service, he pursued a career in textiles. His passion didn't stop there; he enjoyed several hobbies, including working on his cherished 1977 Chevy truck and tending to his garden, where he found joy and peace.
Above all, Leo was a devoted family man. He cherished every moment spent with his family: son, Mike Walker (Tina); daughter, Judy Green (Bobby); grandchildren, Robbie Walker, Scott Atwell, Todd Walker, Wesley Walker, Dwayne Green, Christy Green, Jeffery Walker; 16 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Fite, Jean Cain and he was always there to lend a helping hand or share a laugh with his precious family and friends.

Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Walker; parents, Jonas and Edith Walker; sons, Jimmy Walker and Jeff Walker; grandchildren, Marsha Fraley, Kent Green, and Johnny Green; brothers, Deo, Dean, JC, Winfred Walker.
To celebrate Leo's life and legacy, visitation will be held at Greene Funeral Service - West Chapel on Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM. Those attending will have the chance to pay their respects and share fond memories. Leo will be laid to rest at Midview Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Marines and the Gaston County Honor Guard.
While he will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing that his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Leo. Your spirit and love will forever guide us.
