Leocadia N. Thompson

Our dear Lee passed away quietly at Nazareth House. This incredible wife, mother and friend had a calming presence, a kind spirit and quick wit that will be forever in our lives. Her memory will stand solidly with us forever. Lee was a gracious host, loved to entertain in her home for family gatherings and friends.

Lee was born to loving parents, William and Lydia Henriques, on Kauai where she spent her early years. The family moved to Oahu and she attended Sacred Heart High School. In 1955, the family moved to San Francisco where she finished high school at Mercy High. She matriculated to Lone Mountain College for Women and graduated in 1961 with a dual degree in Education and French.

She met her husband-to-be, Ronald, on a blind date on May 16,1958 and never looked back! They were married on August 4,1962 in San Francisco. Over the next decade, there were numerous moves because of Ron's medical training - Stanford, Oregon, San Jose, Los Angeles, finally settling in Westwood in 1971. During these travels, the family gradually expanded with Scott (1963), Kevin (1966), Heather Bass (1970) and Ryan (1972). During this time, Lee earned an MA in Special Education, teaching at various schools and substituting at St. Paul the Apostle School. She was active in the Paulist Women's Club at St. Paul's and served as its president.

In the 1980's, she began voluntary Eucharistic Ministry at the UCLA Medical Center and continued for the next 20 years. She was also active in the Juniors of Social Service, National Charity League and was one of several founders of the St. James Inn. She was always a huge supporter of nationwide Catholic Charities.

Lee enjoyed traveling to Europe, the Far East and returning to a family home in Maui several times a year, where she felt very relaxed and enjoyed sitting on the beach and reading under a palm tree. In later years, she enjoyed playing bridge, going to Dodger Games and being proud grandparents to: Shaun (26), Henry (23), Betsy (23), Darcy (20), Margaret (20) and Georgia (16).

Funeral services will be on August 30, 2025 at Holy Cross Cemetery. There will be a rosary service at 12:00, followed by a memorial funeral mass at 1:00pm and a graveside burial. A celebration of life will be held at the home of Heather and Ari Bass later that day.
