Leon B Currier

Leon "Lee" Bernard Currier, 85, passed away on March 12, 2026, at Mat-Su Regional Hospital in Palmer, Alaska.

Lee was born on May 4, 1940, in Rutland, Vermont, to Edna and Stanley Currier. They preceded him in death, along with his older brother, Stanley.

Lee proudly served in the United States Army. Following his service, he worked a number of demanding jobs, including truck driving and logging, and later worked on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline during Alaska's oil boom.

He went on to spend 20 years working at the Port of Anchorage before retiring in 1998.

Outside of work, Lee devoted countless hours to youth hockey. He served as both a coach and president of the Mustang Hockey Association, helping shape a generation of young players.

In retirement, Lee became a snowbird, spending his winters in Hemet, California, while always returning home to Alaska.

Lee was known for being a little crotchety, incredibly funny, and deeply caring. He enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing, spending time outdoors, and visiting with friends. He also appreciated life's simple pleasures: Marlboro Silver 100s, a Bourbon and 7UP "tottie," watching CNN, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. Above all, he cherished time with his family.

Lee is survived by his five children: Elizabeth L. Currier, Leon B. Currier II, Michelle M.L. Frank, Andilea M. Weaver, and Joel J. Currier; and six stepchildren: Zona M. Mullins, Victor Verry, Lyle Verry, Jerry Verry, Kelly Verry, and Eddie Verry.

He is also survived by his nieces, Kathy De Francesco and Lynne Warren; his nephew, Edward Currier; 19 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several extended family members.

In addition to his parents and brother, Lee was preceded in death by his nephew, Stanley W. Currier II. Many of Lee's lifelong friends have also passed, but the memories they shared remain part of his story.

Lee will be remembered for his hardworking spirit and the unmistakable personality that made him truly one of a kind.
