Wesley Alton Bergsrud

Wesley "Wes" Bergsrud, 87, passed away on March 9, 2026 in Anchorage, Alaska.Born in Spring Grove, Minnesota on June 9, 1938, he was the oldest son of Walter and Laverne Bergsrud.He met and married Margaret "Peggy" Schuh in 1958.

In June 1969 Wes and Peggy and their 4 children, Brenda, Bradley, Kevin and Michael moved from Minnesota to Anchorage Alaska.

In his early career Wes owned and operated a traveling roller rink and was an expert on skates himself. He was a journeyman painter and sandblaster and worked on many interstate bridges in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Nebraska as well as other projects.

In Alaska he had a 28 year career working as a driller/mechanic for Western Geophysical until he retired in 1997.

Wes was an avid reader.

When he lived in Minnesota he enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River and bowling. He bowled his first 700 series before he was 17 and one of his first jobs was manually respotting pins in the Spring Grove bowling alley.

He bowled for years on the Recycled Teenagers and The Over The Hill Gang leagues after he retired and also practiced another couple of days a week until his health slowed him down. He still enjoyed visiting and watching his friends bowl up to a few weeks before his death.

He made long lasting friends at bowling and at over 50 Men's poker retreat weekends that included prayer before meals, of course but also cigar smoking, "coolie labor" and enjoying time with friends. He also enjoyed fishing for salmon on the Kenai.

Wes was a devoted catholic and parishioner at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church since 1969 volunteering with the Knights of Columbus and as a communion minister.

Wes is survived by Peggy, his wife of 67 years, daughter Brenda of Anchorage Alaska, son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Barbara of Gold Canyon Arizona, grandchildren Erika (Clinton), Walter (Becca) and Olivia (Ezequiel) and great grandchildren Scott, Camille and Oliver. He was preceded in death by his sons Michael and Bradley and his parents and siblings.

Visitation will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 pm at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church, 825 S. Klevin in Anchorage Alaska. A reception will follow the mass.

Wes will be buried in the family plot next to his sons Bradley and Michael in the Anchorage Memorial Cemetery this summer.
