Leon G. Goettle

Leon Goettle, 82, Minot, formerly of Donnybrook, ND, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Trinity Homes in Minot.
Leon George Goettlewas born on November 3, 1943, in Kenmare, ND to Leonard and Annie (Limacher) Goettle. He was raised on the family farm located in Stave Township and attended grade school at St. Agnes Academy school and a Stave Township Country School through the 8th grade. Following his schooling he helped run the ranch with his dad and brothers.
On June 30th, 1984, Leon married Edith Smith; the couple spent many wonderful years living and ranching together until Edith's death in 2008.
Leon was known for his down-to-earth personality and love of nature and ranching. The ranch offered Leon the opportunity to enjoy North Dakota's beauty in every season. Whether calving in the spring, haying in the summer heat with country music on the radio, working cattle in the fall, or feeding in the winter, no one could say Leon wasn't a hard worker.
A true cowboy, he attended many rodeos, riding horse whenever he had the chance. He went on many trail rides, was a member of the Blaisdell Rodeo Club and the Rolling Hills Saddle Club. On any occasion Leon would not be caught without his cowboy hat and boots and if you got in a conversation with him you'd be sure to catch his favorite expression, "Ya ya". He was in a square dance club called the Prairie Promenaders.
Leon will be remembered as a down to earth man who was a hard worker and a great brother and neighbor. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his siblings, Lawrence (Nancy) Goettle, Daniel Goettle, Joyce (Andy) Bly, Minot, Margaret Goettle, Laureen (Robert) Klein, and Monica (Ron) Dessonville; sisters-in-law, Doris Goettle, Donnybrook, MaryJo Goettle, Troy, MT, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edith; brothers, Jack and Jim Goettle; sisters-in-law, Marlene Goettle, LeAnn (Klein) Goettle; and brothers-in-law, Len Voigt and Murvin Brown.
Liturgy of the Word Service: Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Donnybrook, ND in the spring.
Visitation: Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
