Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory (43rd St. Chapel) - Bradenton on Jan. 8, 2026.
Leon Walter Kwitowski, age 89, of
Bradenton, FL, formerly of
Erie, PA, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, after a brief illness in
Bradenton, Florida. He was born in Erie on July 3, 1936, son of the late Mary (Niedzielski) Kwitowski and Edward Kwitowski.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lucy (Lamendola) Kwitowski in 2004, his cherished daughter, Kathryn Mansfield, and his dear niece, Patricia Zewatsky. Leo is also preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Smith.
Leo was a "snow bird" after retirement until 2013 before becoming a full-time resident of Florida. Leo's life was one marked by devotion-to his country, his work, and most importantly, to his family. Leo's legacy lives on through his daughters, Janet (Guy) Strayer and Carol (Patrick) Noll, as well as his grandchildren, Michael Mankowski, Rachel (Dan) Suarez, Colin Mansfield, Ashlyn Mansfield, Emily (Matt) Printz, Amanda (Andrew) Aumen, and John Noll. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Olivia Suarez and Ellie Suarez and eagerly anticipated the arrival of his great-grandson baby boy Printz. Leo is also survived by his brother Patrick (Maureen) Kwitowski. He also leaves behind a special friend, Patricia Cooling.
After high school, Leo served his country with honor and distinction in the Marines from 1953 to 1956. Upon returning to civilian life, he embarked on a career at General Electric as an inspector, where his meticulous nature and strong work ethic were greatly valued for many years until he retired in 1996.
Leo was an avid player of shuffleboard, pool, and golf, and he cherished the camaraderie of a good game of cards. Florida and the Trailer Estates community enhanced his life and activities for many years. He loved Florida and never missed the cold weather and snow in
Erie, PA. Leo loved life and some of his favorite memories were family get-togethers. He was dedicated to the Catholic religion, first at Holy Rosary Parish and then at Mt Carmel Parish in
Erie, PA.
As the sun sets on a life well-lived, we bid farewell to Leo and celebrate the life he lived and the people he touched. Leon Walter Kwitowski will be profoundly missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, secure in the knowledge that his legacy of love and devotion will endure for generations to come.
Funeral services are private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery,
Erie, PA. Arrangements were under the care of the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory in
