On October 30, 2025, Leon "Lee" Maxwell "...slipped the surly bonds of Earth...danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings...put out his hand and touched the face of God" for eternity. He was born to Bert and Helen Maxwell on October 24, 1940, the first of nine children - five brothers: Tom (Janice), Jon (Susan), Mark (Jean), Joel (Gayle), Paul (Jayna) and three sisters: Marilyn Payne who preceded him in death (Jim), Marcia Rucker (Travis), and Rita Wallenberg (Wally, deceased). Sharron, his best friend, partner, sweetheart, and bride of 58 years survives as do their children and grandchildren: son Brian (Jennifer), Elizabeth, Charles, Henry; and daughter Melanie Via (Wayne), Macy (Tyler), Dylan, Andrew.
After spending several years in the seminary before graduating from St. Mary's University, he entered the Air Force as a Supply Officer and later achieved his lifelong dream of becoming an Air Force pilot. Eight years later he resigned his commission and became a State Farm multiline insurance agent. Thirty-one years later retiring from Corporate Agency Executive Office, he reveled in the freedom of retirement. Boating, traveling the U.S., cruising the world, volunteering for parish liturgical ministries, and spending all possible time with the grandchildren. Forever the teacher, they affectionately called him Obi-Wan and he called them his Padawan.
A funeral mass followed by a lunch reception will be held Monday, November 10 at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Catholic Community - 1000 Tinker Road, Colleyville, TX 76034.
Memorials are welcome in lieu of flowers. They may be directed to Good Shepherd Catholic Community.
