Leon Nelson

Leon L. Nelson was born on May 24, 1954, in St. Louis, MO to Gaston Helm and Elouise Nelson. Leon was educated in the District 189 school system. After completing high school he went on to do some technical training. Leons work history was extensive. At a young age he worked as a janitor at different schools in District 189. He was an electrician and then got a job cutting down trees. He worked at Chase and Atlas Moving Company. He was a driver for Central Med Car. He was part owner of Nikkis Taxi and Med Car. He also at one time was a supervisor for multiple companies in Duluth, Minnesota. His last job before retirement was doing cross merchandising and as a supervisor in the paint department at Home Depot.
Leon loved hanging with family and friends to celebrate just because, or birthdays, and holidays. Leon also enjoyed movie nights, spinning records, camping, dinner, and cooking; as long as he could spend time with family and friends.
Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Nelson; mother, Elouise Nelson; father, Gaston Helm; grandparents, Eddie Lee and Ester Nelson and sister, Janet Helm.
Leon departed this life on December 5, 2023, at home in Cahokia, Illinois.
Leon leaves to cherish his memory his mother-in-law, Carol Dunn of Cahokia, IL; brother, Larry Helm of Nebraska; sisters, Saundra Helm of Nebraska and Dorothy Pruitt of Belleville, IL; children, LaTisha (Rose Ed) Washington of Cahokia, IL, Antwan Foxworth of Cahokia, IL, Leon (Tova) Nelson of Jacksonville, FL, LaQuitas (Charles) Warren Jr. of Cahokia, IL, LaTasha (Ramon) White of St. Louis, MO, Candace (Sean) Metcalf of Rockville, MD, Christine (David) Newman of Park Hills, MO, Sabrina (Scott) Eck of Branson, MO, Bryant (Kearston) Dunn of Green Co, FL, Artemis Nelson of Cahokia, IL, Crystal Nelson of Rockville, MD, Deont Nelson of Cahokia, IL; 36 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren; Son by Love: Aaron (Allison) Woodrow of Jacksonville, FL; special aunt/Best Friend, Rochelle Scott of Surprise, AZ; special cousins, Alan Faulkner and Christopher Scott; several dear friends, John, Karen, Slim, Walter Berry, LD, Ray, Greg and a host of other family and friends.
