Mr. Leon Louis Reiss, age 87, of Brewton, Alabama passed away peacefully at his home
on Wednesday, September 11 th, 2024. He was a former resident of Altamont, Illinois, and he has resided in Brewton, Alabama since 1972. Mr. Reiss was a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957. He was retired from Exxon Corporation with 35 plus years of service.
He enjoyed coffee at Huddle House with friends, church on Saturday night and Sunday
morning with family, and inspecting Brewton thoroughly to quickly report any problems to the appropriate person. His favorite past times were working in his yard and washing his truck and showing his grandchildren the correct way to wash their car.
He is survived by his children: Debbie (Wiley) Downing, Marcia (Johnny) Allan, Terry
(Isabel) Reiss, and Jennifer (Derek) Jackson; grandchildren: Michael (Meyet), Ashley, Sara (Brett), Jessica, Kayla (Dylan), Haley, Tiffany, Parker (Emily), Paxton (Hannah), Myra, Gabrielle, Meredith, Hannah, and David; and great-grandchildren: Elisabeth, Adi, Harrison, Olivia, Rosemary, Charlotte, Katherine, Mary-Cole, and Caroline.
He is survived by his sister, Norma Jean Major, of Michigan and his brother, Don Reiss, of Illinois.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his children: Michael, Doug, and Greg; his
parents, Louis and Mary Reiss; and his sister, Marilyn Kaufman.
Visitation will be held at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home on Sunday,
September 15 th, 2024, from 4 PM – 6 PM. The funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Monday, September 16 th, 2024, at St. Maurice Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick Madden officiating, followed by a graveside service at Union Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton, Alabama directing.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to THE ANGEL OF HOPE CHILDREN'S
MEMORIAL GARDEN in memory of Leon Reiss to honor his sons: Michael, Doug, and Greg, who preceded him in death. Please make checks payable to the City of Brewton and designate Angel of Hope Garden. Mail donations to Meadorwood Garden Club, 111 Dogwood Lane West, Brewton, Alabama 36426.
