Leon F. "Poppy" Schrader, age 73 of Higginsville, Missouri died on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Born Monday, July 26, 1937 in Dornsife, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Russell Schrader and Mabel Latshaw Schrader. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Edith Osmond & Sarah Rebuck. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1958, ranking Spec. 3, his last assignment with the U.S. Army Mortuary. Leon worked as a forklift operator at Alcoa Aluminum in Frederick, Maryland until his retirement in 1999. He was a resident of Hagerstown & Smithsburg, Maryland before moving to Higginsville. Leon liked to travel, fish, & spend time with his dogs. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Smithsburg; life member of the Blue Ridge Sportsman's Association in Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania; life member of the South Mountain Rod & Gun Club in Smithsburg; life member of the AMVETS Post in Hagerstown, Maryland; member of American Legion in Riviera, Texas, member of Salem Masonic Lodge #196 in Smithsburg; member of Lexington, Missouri Moose Lodge; and member of the Higginsville Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are daughter, Diane & Husband Richard Lynn of Higginsville; son, Wayne & Wife Rhonda Schrader of Smithsburg; sisters, Marion Snyder of Rebuck, Pennsylvania; Erma & Husband Paul Schlegel of Colorado; June & Husband Delmar Whary of Millersburg, Pennsylvania; Nancy & Husband Donald Troutman of Lykens, Pennsylvania; 3 grand children, Sharon & Husband Joe Emmerick of Japan, Morgan Schrader of Smithsburg, Alison Lynn of Higginsville; 1 great grand child Jadyn Evans; and special friend who was like a son, Robert Martin. A Memorial service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, August 6, 2010 at Missouri Veterans Chapel, Higginsville, with the Rev. Nick Kindred officiating. Inurnment at a later date.
