Obituary published on Legacy.com by McKiever Funeral Home - Conway from Jun. 14 to Jun. 18, 2024.
Leona was born in
Conway, South Carolina on November 15,1949 to Georgia May Edwards and Leon Livingston. She and her brother Jason were raised in the home of her Paternal Grandparents Hamp and Laura Livingston in
Longs, South Carolina.
In the home of her Paternal Grandparents whom she referred to as Mama and Daddy were her young Aunts and Uncles that she thought of as her other siblings. Leona often looked forward to spending time with her Mother Georgia May and her siblings from that side of the family.
She was educated in the Horry County School System and would later be employed with Horry County Schools
Leona met and married a gentleman by the name of Vance Gause. To this union were born three children, Van Theresa, Don Dieago and Lendrell Hugh Gause. Though their relationship turned out to be less permanent than either of them expected, both continued to raise their children together. Many years later Leona was blessed with her youngest daughter Lavonya Wilson. She always looked forward to spending time with her Grandchildren, Marvin, Labrea, Naveah, Don Jr., ZaMiyah, Tyler, Kennedy, Kendahl, Cherokee, Lendrell Jr., Donaja and Tamira.
In 2020 Leona was blessed to meet her last love, Mr. Albert Woodard. They combined their families together with a beautiful wedding on April 30,2022 and started enjoying spending time together traveling and keeping each other company. Albert faithfully attended to Leona's needs and cared for her during her illness and was there with her when she completed her earthly assignment.
Leona was a very skilled seamstress. She could create masterpieces with her sewing machine. This was a skill that she picked up from her days of working at the sewing plant. She spent many years working at Sea Captains House, where she attained the knowledge on how to make a delectable crab salad. She later finished her working career by retiring from the Horry County School System.
Leona was a Cancer Survivor and dedicated herself to making others aware of the warning signs and treatment of cancer. She organized and held an annual Cancer program at her beloved Church, Popular A.M.E. where she was a faithful member up until the day she transitioned to be with God. She was a dutiful member of International Masons and Eastern Star. She had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor.
Leona's unexpected death has left an unspeakable void in the lives of those who loved her.
