Leonard R. Burrell

78, of Eaton, passed away Monday, February 2, 2026.

He was born October 9, 1947, in Dayton, to the late Robert L. Burrell and Joyce M. (Glowe) Baker.

In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his stepdad, Herman Baker; sister, Juanita Eades; brother, Tony Hasselman; and half-sister, Bonnie George.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, May (Hurd) Burrell; daughter, Samantha (David) Glover; son, David (Michelle) Burrell; grandchildren, Ethan Burrell, Kailynn Brubaker, Christian Burrell, and Michael Edwards; and many nieces and nephews.

Leonard was a man of quiet strength, deep loyalty, and enduring love for his family and country. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Leonard honorably served two separate tours of duty. His first enlistment spanned from November 1966 to February 1975, during which he served nearly three years overseas in the Vietnam War era. Years later, answering the call to serve once again, Leonard reenlisted from March 1981 to July 1985, with assignments in Washington, D.C. and Germany. His service reflected a lifelong commitment to duty, honor, and sacrifice.

Outside of his military life, Leonard found peace and joy in the simple pleasures of time well spent. He was an avid fisherman who especially loved casting a line at Grand Lake St. Mary’s, content to catch whatever happened to be biting that day. Fishing wasn’t just a hobby for Leonard, it was a way to relax and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.

Family time meant everything to Leonard, and some of his most cherished moments were spent gathered around the table playing card and board games. Whether it was Uno, Phase 10, or Yahtzee, he loved the laughter, friendly competition, and togetherness those games brought. In his younger years, Leonard also enjoyed camping and bowling, activities that showed his appreciation for both the outdoors and good company.

A visitation will be held Sunday, February 8 from 1PM to 3PM at PREBLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL CENTER, West Alexandria. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 9 at 11AM, also at the funeral home, with Pastor Ryan Blair officiating. Leonard will be laid to rest at Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors.
