Leonard Cass Downing

Leonard Cass Downing, 87, of Warren, OH passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born December 24, 1936 in Warren, OH, a son of the late Lewis C Downing and the late Ethel May (Black) Downing. On February 5, 1960 he married Virginia "Ginny" Frantz and they spent the next 63 years together until her passing in 2023.
He was a graduate of Bristol High School class of 1955. Leonard retired from LTV Steel, and then moved to Grapevine, TX where he retired from Animal Control and City Manager for Coppell, TX. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Leonard was a Freemason, volunteered for the Braceville Fire Department, involved with the 4H and boarding horses at his Flying "D" Ranch for many years. Leonard loved to work on anything that had a motor. He also loved to go on his charter fishing trips.
He is survived by his sons; Douglas (Theresa) Downing of Warren Twp. OH; Donald Downing of Warren Twp., OH, grandchildren, Doug (Jennifer) Downing, Kaliegh (Nick) Downing, Kodi Downing, Chris (MacKenzie) Hammond, great-grandchildren, Trey, Cali, Rylee, Anthony, Emma and Eva, as well as a very special nephew, Adam Downing. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, Virginia "Ginny" M. Downing, sisters, Wilda, Florence and Ruth, half-brother, Cliff, and granddaughter, Jackie Downing.
Services will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where Pastor Shirley Frantz will officiate. Friends may call from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on April 24, 2024 at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home. Interment will be in Pine Knoll Cemetery, Warren Twp., OH.
