LEONARD KLEIN

KLEIN, LEONARD 84 - died at his home on November 18, 2013. He was born on February 19, 1929, in Clarkdale, Arizona to the late Leonard and Jeannette Klein. He graduated from Clarkdale High School and the University of Arizona, where he majored in music with a specialty in piano. Leonard then served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Russian language translator. After his discharge from the service, he studied with Darius Milhaud at Mills College in Oakland, California and in Paris. He completed a PH.D at the University of Iowa. Before coming to Stockton in 1971, he taught at the University of Oklahoma, Indiana University, and Mills College. While at Stockton, Leonard helped create an Arts Curriculum, along with teaching, composing, and practicing. He started The Stockton Chamber Players, which gave many interesting programs at Stockton, the Jewish Community center, and other local colleges. He was also part of the Gotham Trio. Leonard is survived by his wife, Sue; their children, Darius M. and Jennie Klein and her husband, Jay Davis; and two grandchildren, Maddie and victor Davis; his sister, Leah, and his nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Leonard's Life Celebration at the Heights Presbyterian Church at 2116 Ocean Heights Ave, Egg Harbor Township, NJ on Saturday December 21,2013 from 10:30am to11:00am. Memorial service will follow 11am. Interment is private .In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's association; Delaware valley chapter, 399 Market Street Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
