Obituary for Leonard Landsman
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Leonard Landsman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He departed this life peacefully on August 12, 2025, at the age of 93, from natural causes. Born on March 23, 1932, in Manhattan, NY, Leonard led a life marked by kindness, wisdom, and resilience.
Leonard was the cherished husband of Birgitta Landsman, whom he met and married at the age of 44. His family was the cornerstone of his existence. He is survived by his beloved wife, his sons, and his grandchildren. A devoted father, he celebrated the births of his sons as his most prideful moments, and his legacy will live on through his dedication to his family and the love of athleticism and sports he passed on to his grandchildren.
Leonard's life was rich with experiences and accomplishments. An avid sports fan, he loved baseball, tennis, and football. He showcased his athletic talent by pitching for the Miami University Hurricanes baseball team in 1953. A dedicated lifeguard in his youth, he famously saved a man from drowning after a heroic swim despite being stung by a Portuguese man-of-war himself. He was in the U.S. Navy from approximately 1949 to 1952, serving as a Physician's Assistant at the US Navy Submarine Base in Pearl Harbor, where he earned the Korean Service Medal, 1 Star. He also had a brief but notable stint as a body double for Troy Donahue on the TV series, Surfside 6, sometime between 1960 and 1962.
Beyond his military service and athletic pursuits, Leonard had a successful career, earning the honor of Salesman of the Year for Air-Shields medical equipment company in 1984. An agnostic Jewish man, Leonard would often say, "Stay Happy," and his life was a testament to his belief in never giving up and allowing your conscience to be your guide.
A celebration of Leonard's was held on Tuesday, August 19th, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at Forest Meadows Cemetery - Central, 4100 NW 39th Ave, Gainesville, FL, where family gathered to honor his memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of choice in Leonard's name, reflecting his lifelong dedication to helping others. May he rest in peace.
