Leonard McCoy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Riverside Funeral Home - Albuquerque on Jan. 14, 2026.
Leonard Leon Reed McCoy, affectionately known as "Lay low," was born on October 27, 1974, to Leonard Reed and Almeter McCoy. He was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Evelyn and Edward Reed, whom he proudly called Mom and Dad.

Leon accepted Christ at an early age and carried his faith throughout his life.

He grew up in Summit, Oklahoma, and graduated from Muskogee High School in 1993. Leon enjoyed spending time with family and friends, listening to music, cooking, and eating, fishing, and being outdoors. His big heart, warm smile, and outgoing spirit brought joy to everyone who knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memory four daughters-Jasmine, Shalaya, Asonna, and Melesa; two sons, Tailon and Kavion; his brothers Terrence, Chester, and Kentrell; and his sisters Shante and Lisa. He is also survived by four grandchildren- Zy'Liah, Cir'Kylan, Dy'Mauni, and Kanean. A loving circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A special part of Leon's life was his aunt, Genevieve Abe, who was like a mother to him, and her children-Kevin, Joe Jr., Shawn, and the late Shameka Abe-who were more like siblings than cousins.

Leon is preceded in death by his son Kahleb; his brother, Edward; his grandparents Evelyn and Edward Reed; his father Leonard Reed; his stepmother Esther Reed; his aunt Genevieve Abe; and his cousin Shameka Abe.

Leon will be deeply missed, yet his laughter, love, and joy will continue to shine through all who knew him. As 2 Corinthians 5:8 reminds us, "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." Though we mourn his absence here on earth, we celebrate that Leon is now in the presence of Christ, at peace.
