Leonard “Len” Claire Melton, 80, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away at IU Methodist Hospital on March 10, 2026.
Len was born on August 2, 1945, in Brooksville, Florida and was the son of Julia “Betty” Faust and Walter Melton. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he was known for his kindness, humor, and infectious smile. Len never knew a stranger and befriended all he met. His legacy includes instilling in his kids and grandkids a never-ending work ethic, an innate joyful spirit and love for life, a trust in God during both good and bad times, a love for fishing, country music, and dad jokes. His favorite dad joke was “the doctor told me to keep an eye on my weight, so I’m making sure it’s right out here in front of me” and he’d point to his belly.
Len began his career as a journeyman electrician, ultimately becoming a master electrician and owning his own electrical contracting business. He served our country as a radio operator in the Vietnam war. In his retirement he spent his time helping his neighbors as the President of the HOA—cleaning the grounds, taking neighbors to doctor’s appointments and walking around the neighborhood telling jokes. Outside of work, he loved being with family and friends, snacking, fishing with his grandsons, listening to country music, watching professional wrestling, and helping his friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Melton, his daughter and family Teresa and Matthew Voors (Parker, William, Jacob), his son and family Tim Melton (Zach Carnahan, Lara Peters, Tressen Melton), his brother Walter Melton and sister-in-law Lana Melton.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Visitation will take place this Friday March 20, 2026, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, located at 990 East 191st Street, Noblesville, Indiana 46060 from 10-11a.m. with a funeral mass immediately following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, Len and Kathy requested memorial contributions to be made to their grandsons’ school, Traders Point Christian School in Whitestown Indiana.
