Leonard POPPENHAGEN Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Waldon Professional Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC. on Jan. 28, 2026.
Leonard Adolph Poppenhagen, a cherished father, devoted Christian, and a man of laughter and adventure, was called home to the Lord on January 19, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on February 28, 1942, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, Leonard lived a life marked by love, service, and an unwavering faith.

Leonard was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, a commitment that spoke to his deep sense of duty and patriotism. His years in service were a testament to his strength and character; values he carried with him throughout his life. After his honorable discharge, Leonard continued to embody the spirit of camaraderie and community that he had learned in the Navy, becoming an active and beloved member of his local Christian congregation in Orlando, Florida.

Those who knew Leonard will remember him as the epitome of kindness, a man who never failed to bring joy and laughter into the lives of others. His humor was a light in any gathering, and his adventurous spirit was contagious. Leonard was a man who found happiness in the simple pleasures of life-whether that was spending quality time with his beloved family or feeling the freedom of the open road beneath the wheels of his motorcycle.

Leonard's legacy is carried on by his wife, Olga Poppenhagen, & his sons, Leonard Poppenhagen Jr. and Alexander Poppenhagen, who will continue to honor their father's memory by living out the values he instilled in them. His presence as a guiding force in their lives was as steady as his faith, and the lessons he taught them will resonate through generations.

In his journey through life, Leonard embraced the wisdom of Scripture and often found solace in the words of Jesus: "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full" (John 10:10). This verse was not just a line of text to Leonard but a daily practice. He lived fully, loved generously, and laughed heartily, embodying the abundance of life that Christ promises.

As we bid farewell to Leonard Adolph Poppenhagen, we do so with the comfort of knowing that he has found eternal peace and rest in the arms of our Savior. His was a life well-lived, marked by an unwavering commitment to his faith, his family, and his country. May we all aspire to reflect even a fraction of the light that Leonard shone in this world. He will be deeply missed yet joyfully remembered.
