SNOW, Leonard Nelson "Lenny"
1946 - 2023
While remaining healthy and positive throughout his Alzheimer's journey, Lenny passed away unexpectedly on May 28, 2023, after a brief illness. Born June 11, 1946, in Columbus, OH, he grew up in Daytona Beach, FL, spent his adult life in Atlanta and Chattanooga, and finally settled in Trenton, GA.
Coach Tom Owen ignited Lenny's passion for football at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach. He continued his football journey at Georgia Tech as Tailback (41) under Coach Bobby Dodd. Lenny's remarkable talent and dedication led to his Most Valuable Player Award for the 1965 Gator Bowl and earned him the title of All-American in 1966. The Minnesota Vikings selected him in the 1968 NFL draft, but after an injury never played professionally. He was inducted into the Georgia Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 1976.
Lenny embodied a unique blend of unassuming humility and unwavering determination. Whether he faced football challenges or 1970s Atlanta construction and real estate hurdles, Lenny approached each obstacle with purpose and wit, using his humor to navigate difficulties and connect with others. In the 1980s, he discovered his true passion and enjoyed success in owning a precious metals refining business. Throughout his life, Lenny found great joy in building relationships and empowering others to achieve their own goals. Inquisitive by nature, he loved learning about people and had a variety of interests. From scuba diving to piloting his own plane, he was always up for an adventure or a good laugh.
Lenny leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Shelia; his three daughters: Stacy Petrea (Matthew), Shelly Nooner, and Betsy Woodward (Sean); a stepson, Scott Hill (Tatiana); six grandchildren; his two brothers, Lloyd "Poocho" Snow and Bradley Snow; and a host of extended family and friends.
Lenny followed his own path in life, living fully and independently without regrets. He was a long-time member of Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church, but in accordance with his wishes, no formal service will be held. Instead, Lenny encourages everyone to celebrate his life by reflecting and sharing memories with loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that contributions be made to Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).

I was so lucky to be a friend of Lenny´s in high school! A Bama fan, I was so hoping he would choose Bama when he was heavily recruited by Coach Bryant! LeeRoy Jordan was sent to MHS too! That said, he surely made us all proud! About 12 years ago Coach Bud Carson´s wife & I were talking & I mentioned Lenny. She spoke fondly of him, as we all do!

I was in 5th grade during the legendary 1966 season. Will always be my favorite team of all time. Lenny Snow represented everything that made you so proud to be a Tech fan.

I grew up in Atlanta and began playing football in the fall of 1964 at Tull Waters Elementary School. The following spring in 1965 we had our sports banquet. A young man by the name of Lenny Snow from Georgia Tech spoke at that banquet and we all got to meet him. He was really nice to all of us young kids who he didn't know. Although I never met him again, he made a lasting and positive impression on me not just as a football player but as a really good person. Thank you, Lenny.

I´m so saddened to learn the news about Lenny. Lenny´s dad and my dad, Jake Gregory, were the best of friends growing up in Delray Beach, FL. His grandmother, Mrs. Snow, was like a third grandmother to me. I can remember playing in her backyard with Poocho as youngsters. He would remember me as "Jakie". Lenny introduced me to Ga Tech football and the school. I became a huge fan and later on an alumnus. Thank you Lenny for the impact you made in my life. RIP#41.

One of the greatest athletes to come out of Mainland High School, but more importantly a man of high character and integrity. A friend to everyone.
Condolences to his family.

My first memories and love of Ga. Tech was reading about and listening to Tech football in the 1960's as a young teen ager. Lenny Snow was one of my all time favorites, and I never will forget when he got hurt in a night game against Miami down there on the opening kickoff return. I have hated Miami ever since!! :-) That group of players on that team including Kim King solidified my choice in life of whether to become a Tech or Georgia fan! I migrated to the intelligent, classy group! RIP Lenny as you thrilled alot of kids during your time on the flats as I would shut my eyes, and watch you run every play on the radio! Save a seat at the table for the rest of us Tech guys!! THWG Gene Murphey Class of 1975.
