Obituary for Leonora Chinel Auvil
September 28, 1938 – November 17, 2025
It is with deep love and profound sadness, our family announces the passing of Leonora Chinel Auvil, who was born in the Philippines on September 28, 1938, and entered the kingdom of heaven peacefully in her family home in San Diego, California, on November 17, 2025.
As a devoted Catholic, cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Leonora lived a life defined by service, faith, and love.
Leonora moved to San Diego in 1970, carrying with her an unshakeable faith, a warm heart, and a dedication to creating a better future for her family. Intelligent, kind, and playfully funny, she touched countless lives not only through her profession but also through the way she lived each day. She was a talented businesswoman who owned a home daycare, a licensed nurse who cared lovingly for the elderly, and a devoted caregiver to ill family members. Her compassion and selflessness were the center of everything she did.
Her faith guided her every step. Leonora was a devout Catholic who served as a Eucharistic Minister, multiple novenas to Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Tuesdays and Sacred Heart on Fridays and volunteered with unwavering commitment at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She held esteemed leadership there as the Regent of the Catholic Daughters Association and was an active member of the Legion of Mary, where her generosity and dedication uplifted many. After retiring, she attended church nearly every day, offering prayers for the intentions of her family, friends, and those in need.
A proud and loving matriarch, Leonora is survived her five children: Severino Rieta, Severino Rieta II, Samuel Rieta, Nancy and stepdaughter Patricia. She leaves behind nine cherished grandchildren, niece, and multiple beloved great-grandchildren, a new great grandbaby whom were blessed by her warmth, wisdom, and enduring love.
Leonora now joins her parents, younger siblings, husband Russel and their daughter Cherylynn in eternal peace. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of faith, compassion, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
