Leor George Popp, age 89, of Crystal Lake, IL was called home to be with the Lord on September 23, 2025 while at Journey Care in Barrington, IL.
He was born on September 9, 1936, at his parents home in Crystal Lake, IL to George J Popp and Dorothea M (Koch) Popp.
Lee grew up in Crystal Lake and graduated from Crystal Lake Community High School in 1954. He was a proud veteran who served in the United States Army at Fort Knox, KY from 1960-1962. He went on to work for Oak Manufacturing and Farr Company in Crystal Lake until his retirement. Lee was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake where he was an active volunteer and a regular at the 8 am service. He enjoyed the time in his 70's and 80's doing regular workouts with the veterans group from Immanuel.
His nieces and nephews were like children to him, including all of the great and great great nieces and nephews. He could always be seen at their sporting games, school events, and graduation ceremonies. He was lovingly referred to as Uncle Lee, Unc, or Unkie by his family members.
During the 80's and 90's Unc owned a cabin on School House Lake in Westfield, WI. It quickly became a gathering place for the whole family. Not a year went by without the family packing the cabin for Memorial and Labor Day weekends! Those weekends were some of the most memorable for Unc and his family.
In his spare time, Lee enjoyed playing softball, fishing with his family and friends, and golfing at Old Top Farm. He was known for his witty sense of humor and his brilliant play on words.
Uncle Lee will be very missed by his nieces and nephews; Randall (Jennifer) Anderson, Roxann (Casey) Voris, Robyn (Dave Carlin) Anderson, Timber Filkins, Rochelle (Mike) Smeja, Terry (Stacy) Filkins, Tamara Filkins, 9 great nieces and nephews, 18 great great nieces and nephews and 1 great great great niece.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ruth (Robert) Anderson, his sister Lois (James) Filkins, and his nephew Rickey Lee Anderson.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation at 10:30 am and funeral service at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 7 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 300 S Pathway Court in Crystal Lake. Interment immediately following at McHenry County Memorial Park in Woodstock.
