Lera Maye Kingrey, 89, of Etoile, passed away on May 24, 2025, at the TJ Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, Kentucky. She was born on March 26, 1936, in Freedom, Kentucky to the late Hollis Perkins and the late Katie Matthews Perkins. She lived a life rich in companionship and dedicated service, most notably through her lengthy career at General Electric, where she made a lasting impact before her retirement.
Lera was known for her vibrant personality and her ability to connect with others. She took great joy in engaging with people, never meeting a stranger, and her warmth and hospitality made her home feel like a place of endless Thanksgiving feasts. Her love for cooking, coupled with her skills in sewing, filled her family gatherings with joy and comfort. Above all, Lera cherished the time spent with her loved ones, which she considered the greatest wealth of all.
Lera was a member of Dover Baptist Church and often attended Caney Fork Baptist Church. Her faith was an important part of her life and guided her relationships with family and friends.
Lera is survived by her loving family, including her son Mike Kingrey and his wife Lisa, her daughter Vicki Ballard and her husband Todd, her grandchildren Nick Kingrey (Canzada), Sydney Jones (Isaac), and Maylyn Ballard. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren Clayton Kingrey and Copen Jones, as well as her sister Beth Perkins Harper and several nieces and nephews, who will all miss her dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Kingrey; her son, Danny Kingrey; and her siblings, Hershel Perkins, Wanita Carter, Lucille Dyer, Ormal Perkins, Nina Corder, Imo Baumgardner, Rosemary McCoy, and Tommy Perkins.
The funeral service for Mrs. Kingrey will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May, 28, 2025, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and after 8:00 AM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
