Leroy Holthus Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Michaelson Funeral Home - Owatonna on Dec. 28, 2025.
Leroy Raymond Holthus, 74, of Owatonna, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, suddenly at his home due to medical complications.
He was born July 20, 1951, in Waseca, to Lloyd and Lois (Krassin) Holthus. The family moved to Owatonna when Leroy was in grade school. Leroy graduated from Owatonna High School in 1969 and started working at Federated in their computer systems department. On December 19, 1970, Leroy was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Rebecca "Becky" Steinbauer. They were blessed with two children Erin and Todd. After 9 years at Federated Leroy worked at Jostens for another 15 years and then joined IFACS to set up their computer software systems. He would retire for a short time before he joined the team at Michaelson Funeral Home as a Funeral Director's Assistant, helping with visitations and services. His favorite thing to do was to bag the flowers after the funeral services. He loved interacting with people and talking with everyone from the community and afar. While working at the funeral home he also delivered food for Spare Time in their catering events.
Leroy and Becky bought the farm in 1984, and Leroy loved the country lifestyle even though he had been living in town his whole life. He had 4 major loves: Life, Family, Sports, and Mowing his yard. Telling his family, "No one touches the lawnmower but me." The times that he did allow his children to mow he would do the first swipe and then they could try to mow straight lines the rest of the way. He loved to hunt with his son and grandsons, watch sports and have ESPN on all day, and watch every baseball game that he could. Leroy and Becky bought a cabin on Eagle Lake near Deerwood on his birthday in 1998. Every summer they would spend time at the cabin and fish, but Leroy loved more to watch his family fish and spend time at the lake.
"I have been the luckiest wife in the world to be married to this wonderful man for just over 55 years. I am thankful for everyday that we had together and will cherish every moment." ~Becky~
Leroy is survived by his wife of 55 years Rebecca Holthus; daughter, Erin Harty; son, Todd (and Kristy) Holthus; grandchildren, Kaitlyn (and Dylan) Wineger, Noah Androli, Jacob Harty, Carson and Zachary Holthus; great-grandson, Harrison Wineger; brothers, Lynn Holthus, Lane Holthus, Loel Holthus, Lee Holthus; sister, Linda Erdman; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd Holthus; mother and stepfather, Lois and James Wanous; brother Larry Holthus; stepbrother Kevin Wanous; son-in-law, George Harty; and nephew, Dan Holthus.
