Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home - North Vernon on Nov. 6, 2025.
LeRoy David Palmer, 82, of North Vernon, a unique soul with a dry, sarcastic wit beyond measure, left this life at 9:18 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the home of his daughter. He was baptized in July of 2025, giving his heart to Jesus and truly believing in his grace and mercy.
With tears in his eyes, a trembling voice, and the love of our LORD Jesus Christ in his heart, LeRoy spent some of his last moments holding the hand of longtime family friend, Reverend Jerry Vandervort.
LeRoy was nothing short of a character. Always joking & making people laugh. Sometimes cracking himself up more than others.
He enjoyed hanging out in his barn with the BS boys, repairing lawn mowers, wheeling and dealing, yard sales, wood working, snack cakes, an evening night cap, playing the lottery, and his cat (even though he said he doesn't like cats) but most of all loving his family and friends.
LeRoy was born on April 25, 1943 in New Marion, Indiana, the son of the late Harry George and Naomi Eliza (Thomas) Palmer. Although his family was of little means, prior to his birth, his beloved Mother purchased an oil lamp in case he was born at night. To this day, that lamp remains in his home.
LeRoy graduated from New Marion High School in 1962 and married Ada Sue Waddle in Madison, Indiana on March 20, 1965; she survives. Also surviving are "my girls", as he called them, Melissa Lang of North Vernon and Jennifer (Jeff) Wilson of Elizabethtown; Grandsons, Jimmy (Amanda) Lang of North Vernon and Cole (Shanice) Nicol of Tennessee; Great Grandsons, Gabe, Cooper, Caden, Canaan and Cyrus; one sister, Vadah Hawkins of Madison & many generations of nieces and nephews.
LeRoy was employed by Cummins Engine Company for 30 years, retiring in November of 1995. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #59 of North Vernon.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harry Palmer & Paul Palmer and two sisters, Violet Palmer & Pauline Rogers.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Ronald McDonald House.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in
North Vernon, Indiana. Family may call from 11:00 until noon and friends may call from noon until 1:00 pm. In keeping with LeRoy's wishes, a graveside service will be held at the Marble Corner Cemetery in Versailles, Indiana immediately following the visitation.
With love, honor and privilege, LeRoy's body will be carried to his final resting place by Jimmy Lang, Cole Nicol, Tommy Palmer, Brian Palmer, Jerod Palmer and Steve Marksberry.
